Thirty-five Northwood University student-athletes took part in a one-day leadership retreat at Eagle Village Retreat Center in Hersey, Mich. Representatives from each team were present.
Student-athletes participated in various training exercises, including a classroom session, a mountain rescue site and an indoor ropes course. Sessions allowed the student-athletes to build a better understanding of blending different personalities, abilities, and effectively communicating to achieve team goals.
The retreat also allowed student-athletes to understand their leadership roles on and off the playing field and in their careers beyond Northwood.
"The Leadership Retreat to Eagle Village was a great experience not only for my personal growth, but for the growth of my team as well," said Kasey Harter, senior member of the women's golf team and President of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee. "The leadership skills we were taught and activities we endured challenged our mental and physical abilities that can be used on and off the course. It was an opportunity that I truly believe could make the difference between a good team and great team."
