MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University No. 11 men's soccer team claim back to back GLIAC Tournament Championships with a 3-0 win over Lake Erie on Sunday afternoon (November 8).
The Timberwolves improve to 16-1-1 on the year with the win as the Storm finish the season at 7-9-2.
Keaton Levock (Clinton Twp., Mich. / Chippewa Valley) put NU ahead early on a deep kick from the right side just 3:25 into the match. After a long corner kick, Connor Cole (Plymouth, Mich. / Salem) dumped the ball out to Levock who pulled the trigger and beat the keeper to the upper post from nearly 35 yards out. On a corner kick in the 33rd minute, Adam Thomas (High Wycombe, England / John Hampden) put the Timberwolves ahead 2-0 when he beat the keeper with a header to the back of the net. Levock served in the corner kick and earned the assist on the goal.
Setting up for the fourth corner kick of the day, Jack Smith (Milnthorpe, England) served in a ball from the left side. After it popped back out to him he served in a cross to the foot of Michael Ankoviak (West Bloomfield, Mich. / Walled Lake Northern) who found the back of the net at 59:35 to put NU ahead of Lake Erie 3-0. The Timberwolves have not allowed three goals in a single game for the entire 2015 season and that would prove true for this match as well.
For the match, Northwood maintained an advantage in shots (17-10) and corner kicks (5-2). Keaton Levock finished with a goal and an assist, while Adam Thomas and Michael Ankvoiak each added a goal.
The Timberwolves will learn their fate in the NCAA Tournament on Monday evening, as the selection show takes place at 6 p.m. Northwood enters the week being ranked No. 2 in the region and the top two teams host. The NCAA Selection Show will be broadcast at NCAA.com.
