Baseball Falls At Hillsdale 10-8

The Northwood University baseball team dropped a 10-8 contest at Hillsdale Wednesday afternoon (April 16).

Northwood is now 12-19 overall, 4-13 in the GLIAC. Hillsdale stands at 12-24 overall, 10-11 in the GLIAC.

Hillsdale took control of the game early in, scoring in four of the first five innings to open up a 10-0 lead heading into the sixth. That's when the Timberwolves began to make a late-inning run, plating five runs in the inning. Larsen Cronkright (Midland, Mich./Kellogg CC) got Northwood on the board with an RBI single, which was followed by a two-run double by Cody Rogers (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley). After Rogers scored on a wild pitch, Travis Smith (Clare, Mich.) had an RBI single to make the score 10-5.

The score remained 10-5 until the ninth inning when Northwood made it a game with a rally. Smith scored on an error to make it 10-6, which was followed by Dustin Lee (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) scoring on a fielder's choice. Rogers then had an RBI single to make the score 10-8 and put the tying run on base, but Northwood got no closer than that.

Both teams finished the game with 12 hits. Hillsdale drew four walks in the game, compared to one for Northwood. The Timberwolves did strike out eight Charger batters, while NU struck out four times at the plate.

Rogers finished the game 2-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored. Justin Zyvon (Sterling Heights, Mich./Macomb CC) went 2-4 while scoring two runs, while Cronkright scored a run and drove in a pair.

Northwood will travel to Tiffin for a three-game series beginning Thursday (April 17). The two teams will play a single game at 3 p.m.
