The Northwood University women's soccer team opened up GLIAC play with a 1-0 road win over Walsh Friday night (September 20).
Northwood is now 1-1-1 overall, 1-0 in the GLIAC. Walsh falls to 3-2 overall, 0-1 in the GLIAC.
Neither team got much going offensively in the opening half, which went to the break scoreless. Walsh held a 4-3 edge in shots, while both teams had one corner kick.
The game remained scoreless until the 65th minute. Northwood earned a corner kick, which resulted in a shot on goal. Freshman Allison Carroll (Grand Blanc, Mich.) found the loose ball on the left side of the box and put the rebound home for her first career goal, which proved to be the lone goal of the contest.
The final stats of the game were as even as possible. Both teams finished with nine shots overall, five of which were on goal. Both teams also finished with two corner kicks.
Sophomore keeper Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich.) made five saves for her first shutout of the season and the fifth of her career.
Northwood will travel to Malone Sunday (September 22). Match time is set for Noon.
