Women's Soccer Earns 2-1 Road Win Over Malone

The Northwood University women's soccer team earned a 2-1 road win Malone Sunday afternoon (September 22).

Northwood is now 2-1-1 overall, 2-0 in the GLIAC.  Malone falls to 3-2-1 overall, 1-1 in the GLIAC.

The Timberwolves got the scoring going in the 24th minute.  Freshman Jessica Flores (Tujunga, Calif./Verdugo Hills) took a feed from Sarah Murdoch (Dewitt, Mich.) on a breakaway and found the back of the net.  It was Flores' third goal of the season and gave Northwood a 1-0 at the break. NU finished with an 8-4 edge in shots in the opening half.

Malone evened the score in the 56th minute, but the Timberwolves responded just 22 seconds later to take back the lead.  Jessica Esser (Utica, Mich./Eisenhower) scored her second goal of the year on a breakaway, thanks to a feed from Allison Carroll (Grand Blanc, Mich.) to make the score 2-1.  NU went down a man in the 73rd minute, but the defense did not allow Malone to net the equalizer.

For the match, Northwood finished with a 13-9 advantage in shots.  Malone held a 4-2 edge in corner kicks.  Keeper Julie Shields (Berkley, Mich.) made three saves for her second win of the season.

Northwood will host Ferris State Friday (September 27).  Game time is set for 2 p.m.
