The Northwood University women's soccer team dropped a non-conference match at Ferris State 3-1 this afternoon (October 15).
Northwood falls to 3-7-1 on the season, 3-5 in the GLIAC. Ferris State improves to 6-5 on the year, with a 4-3 GLIAC record.
The Ferris State Bulldogs netted the first goal of the match late into the second half (41:18) to put the Timberwolves behind at halftime 1-0. The Bulldogs held the advantage in shots for the first 45 minutes with 12 to Northwood's eight.
The Bulldogs maintained possession the majority of the second half, putting the NU behind 2-0 in the 54th minute with their second goal of the match. Northwood's Jessica Kalbfleisch (Traverse City, Mich. / Traverse City West) netted the first goal of her career in the 70th minute, on an assist by Jessica Flores (Tujunga, Calif. / Verdugo Hills). Flores served the ball into the box for a shot in front of the net for Kalbfleisch to finish. Flores tallied seven shots in the match (3 of which were on goal) to go with the first assist of her career.
Samantha Cook (South Lyon, Mich. / South Lyon East) registered a career-high 13 saves on the night. Ferris edged Northwood in shots (24-14) and corner kicks (5-2).
The Timberwolves will travel to Gannon and Lake Erie this weekend. Match times are set for 6:30 p.m. at Gannon on Friday (October 18) and 1 p.m. at Lake Erie on Sunday (October 20).
