2013: Ran 20:20.78 to place 10th in the 5k Ray Helsing Bulldog Invite (Sept. 7). Finished with a time of 24:05 in the 6k 2013 Spartan Invitational (Sept. 13). Recorded a 19:43.18 to finish 47^th at the 5k 2013 Greater Louisville Cross Country Classic (Oct. 5) in Louisville, Ky. Clocked a 19:57.99 to finish 21st in the 5k 2013 Michigan Intercollegiate Championships at Hillsdale College on October 11. Placed 69^th at the GLIAC Cross Country Championships (Oct. 26) in Houghton, Mich. with a 6k time of 24:41. Closed out the season in the NCAA Division II Midwest Regional Championships (Nov. 9), Thiel ran a 23:38 to finish 94^th on the 6k course.
