The Northwood University cross country teams both finished 9th at the 2013 Men's and Women's GLIAC Championships Saturday morning (October 26) in Houghton, Mich.
The women's race was the opening event of the day, which was won by Grand Valley State with a team score of 30 claiming their 14th straight conference title. Northwood finished ninth overall with 212 points. The Timberwolves were 9th last year with 225 points. Danielle Miller (Clinton Twp., Mich./Fraser) led the way for Northwood, placing 7th overall on the 6K course with a time of 22:32.5.
Also scoring for the Timberwolves were Kelsey Burgess (Byron Center, Mich./Grand Rapids South Christian) clocking a 23:29.6, Jenny Frantz (Ovid, Mich./Ovid-Elsie) with a 23:44.3, Chloe Theil (Plainwell, Mich./Plainwell) registering 24:41 and Brittany Robichaud (Monroe, Mich./Monroe) at 25:05.7. Rounding out for the women's team were Jennifer Mckenna (Orchard Lake, Mich./Walled Lake Northern) at 25:33.7 and Julia Cherwinski (Saginaw, Mich./Heritage) at 26:59.6.
GVSU also earned the victory on the men's side with a team score of 21. It is the 12th straight GLIAC Championship for the Lakers. Northwood placed 9th in the men's race with a score of 250.Marcus Rogers (Howell, Mich. / Pinckney) and Silas Dekalita (Clio, Mich. / Clio) were the top finishers for the Timberwolves, clocking a 25:57.9 and 25:59.7, respectively, on the 8K course.
