Gale And Ziel Earn Second Team All-Region Honors By D2CCA
MIDLAND, MICH. – Two athletes from the Northwood softball team were named to the DII Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) softball All-Midwest Region Team released Tuesday (May 13). Communication professionals select these teams from across the NCAA Division II Midwest Region. A region made up of member schools from the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC), the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), and the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC).
The Timberwolves' Delanie Gale and Ashley Ziel were among the honorees named. Gale and Ziel were both named as Second Team All-Region players.
This is the first All-Region honor for Gale and the second career honor for Ziel (D2CCA Second Team honoree in 2024).
Northwood's duo led the offense in almost every statistical offensive category while starting all 47 games they both played in. Ziel posted a team-leading .375 batting average with 57 hits, scoring 27 runs and driving in 33 with 11 doubles and three home runs. She held a slugging percentage of .507 and an on-base percentage of .424, collecting 13 walks.
Gale earned the All-Region nod, hitting .359 with 60 hits, 47 runs scored, and 38 RBIs, adding 17 doubles, two triples, and eight home runs. Her slugging percentage was .629. She also went a perfect 8-for-8 on stolen bases while leading Northwood in hits, runs scored, RBIs, doubles, triples, home runs, slugging percentage, and stolen bases.
Northwood softball finished the season 28-20 overall with a 16-8 G-MAC record, earning three All-Conference honorees (Ashley Ziel, Delanie Gale, and Brynn Polega).
