Men's Cross Country Takes Second As Teams Compete At G-MAC Championships

OVERVIEW – G-MAC CROSS COUNTRY CHAMPIONSHIPS

LOCATION: Pioneer Park – Canton, Ohio

RECAP: Northwood men's and women's cross country took to their postseason races Saturday (October 21) for the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) Championships in Canton, Ohio. Five Northwood athletes brought home All-Conference honors during the races, including two First-Team honorees.

Cross country awards are given based on individual performances at the Great Midwest Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships. The first through 10th finishers are named to the first team, while 11th through 20th are named to the second team

INSIDE THE WOMEN'S RACE (6,000 METERS)

  • NU's women placed 5th with 149 points. The race included 158 athletes from all 14 G-MAC teams. Cedarville took home the conference crown with 24 points, while Walsh took second (70 points) and Findlay placed third (124 points).
  • Sophomore Taylor Hopkins led the Timberwolves with a top-10 finish. She earned first-team all-conference honors with her 24-second personal record (PR) with her finish in 22:51.82. She moved into seventh place all-time on NU's top 25 performers list.
  • The Timberwolves had two racers set new PRs during the race.

NORTHWOOD RESULTS:

INSIDE THE MEN'S RACE (8,000 METERS)

  • NU's men placed second with 80 points. The race included 177 athletes from all 13 G-MAC men's teams. Walsh took home the conference crown with 53 points, while Cedarville finished just behind NU, taking third (83 points), and Tiffin placed fourth (101 points).
  • Preston Earl led all Timberwolves, finishing ninth overall in 25:35.5. He claimed first-team all-conference honors in the process.
  • Earl was one of four athletes to claim all-conference honors during the race (finishing within the top 20). He was NU's highest finisher, taking ninth in 25:35.5, and was a first-team all-conference earner. Carson Laney (12th), Joseph Shaya (15th), and Brandon Boyd (18th) all earned second-team all-conference for placing 10th through 20th.
  • The Timberwolves made it the second straight year to finish on the team podium (second in 2022).

  • Northwood men's and women's cross country gear up for the NCAA cross country regional races in Evansville, Ind. on Saturday (November 4). The races will be held at Angel Mounds state historic site.
