Charleston Hughes stands as one of the top linebackers in Northwood football history. A two-time All-American, Hughes earned All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference four times in his career. He led Division II in solo tackles in 2006, finishing the season with 81. Northwood won the GLIAC Championship in 2004 and earned three consecutive trips to the NCAA Tournament in his final three seasons as a Timberwolf. Hughes went on to a highly successful career in the Canadian Football league, where he played from 2008-22. Making the move from linebacker at Northwood to defensive end in the CFL, Hughes led the league in sacks four times and was a six-time CFL All-Star. He finished his career with 136 sacks, good for fifth in CFL history.
