Bio

Bud Hether stands as the best player from the early days of the Northwood baseball team. He finished the 1969 season hitting .417, which still stands as the sixth-highest batting average in school history. As one of just two seniors on the team in 1969, Hether posted 38 hits in 28 games, averaging close to 1.5 hits per game. Hether held most of the offensive school records at the end of his career. He then became the first athlete in Northwood history to be drafted in the Major League Baseball Draft, being selected by the Detroit Tigers as the 115th overall pick during the fifth round. Hether went on to play a pair of seasons in the minor leagues in the Detroit organization.
