Northwood, Saginaw Valley State Hockey To Launch Mid-Michigan Meltdown Rivalry Series
MIDLAND, MICH. – Northwood University and Saginaw Valley State University have announced the launch of a new annual rivalry series between their ACHA Division I hockey programs, titled the "Mid-Michigan Meltdown." The winner of the two-game, goal-differential series will receive a trophy following the conclusion of the weekend matchups.
The inaugural Mid-Michigan Meltdown will take place on February 13-14. Game one will be held on Friday, February 13, at 8:00 p.m. at Midland Civic Arena. Game two will take place Saturday, February 14, at 2:30 p.m. at the Dow Event Center, with a trophy presentation immediately following the game.
The rivalry showcases two neighboring programs that have grown together in recent years. Both Northwood and Saginaw Valley State transitioned to ACHA Division I competition for the 2024-25 season and now compete in the Great Lakes Collegiate Hockey League, strengthening an already competitive regional matchup.
The Mid-Michigan Meltdown aims to establish a lasting heated rivalry between two rapidly growing programs while providing fans with a competitive, high-energy weekend of college hockey in the Great Lakes Bay Region.
