The Northwood University baseball team dropped a pair of games at Tiffin Friday afternoon (April 18). The Dragons won game one 10-0 before taking game two 8-3.
Northwood falls to 12-22 overall, 4-16 in the GLIAC. Tiffin improves to 12-26 overall, 11-10 in the GLIAC.
Tiffin took control of game one in the first inning, plating four runs. NU didn't get much going in the game, finishing with five hits and four errors. The Timberwolves had five different players get one hit in the game.
Northwood got off to a better start in game two, as Cody Rogers (Saginaw, Mich./Swan Valley) put NU on top 1-0 in the first inning on a passed ball. After Tiffin tied the game in the second, Northwood went back on top on a squeeze bunt by Daniel Pulver (Mt. Pleasant, Mich.) that scored Zyke Bailey (Taylor, Mich./HS Truman).
The fourth inning of game two proved to be the undoing of the Timberwolves in game two. Tiffin scored five runs in the frame, thanks in large part to the wildness of the NU pitchers. Northwood walked four batters in the inning, while the Dragons put together three singles to go on top 6-2. NU cut the lead to 6-3 in the fifth on a sacrifice fly by Travis Smith (Clare, Mich.), but Tiffin responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the inning to earn the win.
Northwood finished game two with six hits, three of which were by Larsen Cronkright (Midland, Mich./Kellogg CC).
Northwood will travel to Saginaw Valley State for a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon (April 22). First pitch is set for 2 p.m.
