RECAP: Baseball leads late but falls to defending national champion and tenth-ranked Tampa 4-3 in 12 innings Tuesday afternoon (March 10).


  • Northwood took the lead in the third inning with a pair of runs, starting with an Austin Montas-Burt RBI single that scored Travis Janes.
  • Matt Mango made it 2-0 with an RBI single of his own that plated Cole Brooks.
  • The Timberwolves then made it 3-0 thanks to a Trevor Polewka RBI single in the top of the fifth inning.
  • Tampa got one back in the bottom of the fifth to make the score 3-1.
  • The Spartans then tied it up late thanks to a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth.
  • Northwood had a runner in scoring position in the ninth, 11th and 12th innings but were unable to plate the go-ahead run.
  • Tampa then won it in the 12th thanks to a hit batter, a throwing error on a sacrifice attempt and an RBI single.
