Baseball Places Three On NCBWA All-Midwest Region Team
MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University baseball team placed a total of three players on the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) All-Midwest Region team.
Senior outfielder Cole Brooks and sophomore second baseman Rhett Evans were each named to the First Team. Junior shortstop David Jeffers earned Second Team honors.
Brooks was named the GLIAC Player of the Year this season, becoming the first Northwood player to win the award since Ed Clements in 1995. This season, Brooks led the GLIAC in batting average (.444) and on-base percentage (.534). He also ranks second in runs batted in (58), third in total bases (105), third in walks (29) and third in slugging percentage (.691). Brooks had at least two hits in 24 of 41 games played this season. His .444 average is tied for the eighth highest in the history of the GLIAC and third in Northwood history.
Evans became a key player in his first season as a Timberwolf, ending the year batting .323 with six home runs and 44 RBIs. He ranks fourth in the GLIAC in doubles (16) while standing eighth in home runs and eighth in RBIs.
Jeffers also was an impact player for the Timberwolves in year one, hitting .331 with three home runs and 30 RBIs. He ranks seventh in the GLIAC in runs (45), seventh in hits (56) and 13th in total bases (79).
Northwood finished the year 27-15 overall. NU made the NCAA Regional Tournament for the fourth consecutive time.
