Baseball Places Pair On NCBWA All-Midwest Region Teams

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University baseball had a pair of players be recognized by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) as a part of the All-Midwest Region team.

Senior catcher Khale Showers was named to the Second Team, while sophomore pitcher Derek Clark earned Honorable Mention.

Showers has made his final season at Northwood his best, ending the regular season with a .347 average with nine home runs and 43 RBIs, He was even better in conference play, batting .389 with eight home runs. In conference play, Showers ranked first in home runs and RBIs (34) while standing third in hits (37), runs (27) and slugging percentage (.726).

Clark turned in his second straight big season for Northwood on the mound, finishing the regular season with a 6-2 record and a 3.49 ERA. Clark ended the year with six complete games, which is three more than anyone else in the conference and ranks him 11th in Division II. He also ranks fourth in the conference in wins and fifth in ERA. In two seasons at Northwood, Clark is now 13-5 with a 3.76 ERA.

Northwood (31-21-1) earned its fifth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament this season, qualifying for the Midwest Regional as the No. 5 seed.
