Four Baseball Student Athletes Earn All-Region Honors - Magno Named All-America

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University baseball team had four athletes earn post-season regional and All-America honors at the conclusion of the 2024 season.

Seniors Kendall Anthes, Jake Jekielek, Matt Magno and Blake Salamon all earned recognition. The honors were given out by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA), the Division II Conference Commissioners Association (D2CCA) and the National College Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA).

Anthes led Northwood on the mound this season, going 6-0 with a 3.27 ERA. He allowed hits in 63 1/3 innings of work while striking out 56. In his two seasons at Northwood, Anthes has gone 12-2 for the Timberwolves. His .857 career win percentage at Northwood is the best in school history.

Jekielek responded to a slow start to the season to become one of the best relievers in the region. He finished 5-4 on the year with a 4.29 ERA and eight saves. Jekielek has a remarkable 56/5 strikeout-to-walk ratio on the year. In G-MAC play, Jekielek went 3-0 with four saves and a 1.09 ERA. He finished his career ranked third in school history with 16 saves.

Magno wrapped up his historic career at Northwood career by batting .381 with 15 home runs and 64 RBIs. He finished the year third in the G-MAC in RBIs while ranking fourth in home runs and ninth in batting average. Magno ranks first in school history in games played (228), hits (320) and RBIs (223) while standing second in program history in home runs (36).

Salamon turned in his second consecutive strong season for Northwood, currently batting .373 with 19 home runs and 60 RBIs. He is the all-time leader in program history with 44 career home runs and has the top-two individual home runs seasons in school history (22 in 2023, 19 in 2024). Salamon led the G-MAC in home runs for the second consecutive season while raking second in the conference with a .762 slugging percentage.

Northwood, which reached the NCAA Tournament for the seventh consecutive year, finished the season 33-23 overall with a 23-9 Great Midwest Athletic Conference record.
