Former Baseball Standout Derek Clark Drafted By The Los Angeles Angels

MIDLAND, MICH. – Derek Clark, a former member of the Northwood University baseball team, was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels in the ninth round of the 2024 Major League Baseball draft (262nd overall).

He is the first former Timberwolf baseball player to get drafted since David Vinsky was taken by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 15th Round (455th overall) in the 2019 season.

Clark was a dominant force for Northwood in three seasons from 2021-23. He holds program records for career wins (23), innings pitched (264) and strikeouts (259). Clark also set Northwood season records for innings pitched (103 2/3) and strikeouts (104). He was an All-American for the Timberwolves in 2023 while also being named an ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove award winner.

After being a standout for Northwood, Clark finished his collegiate career at West Virginia, where he turned in another outstanding season. He went 8-3 with a 3.23 as a Mountaineer. Clark was named an All-American and earned his second straight ABCA/Rawlings Gold Glove. He was named the Most Outstanding Player of the Tucscon Regional, where he led the WVU to a trip to the NCAA Super regionals.
