RECAP: Northwood baseball sees its 20-game winning streak come to an end in a doubleheader split against Lake Erie Sunday (April 13), with Northwood taking game one with a comeback 8-7 victory before Lake Erie took game two 5-1.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS (SCHEDULED FOR SEVEN INNINGS)
- A day after getting no-hit in game one and scoring two runs in game two, Lake Erie's offense came out determined in the first inning. The Storm hit a home run on the first pitch of the game and went on to plate five runs in the first.
- The Storm made it 7-0 in the third with a pair of runs.
- Northwood came up in the bottom of the fifth having not reached base for the game and trailing 7-0. That is when the Timberwolves came up with an unusual rally to get back into the game. After an opening bloop double to centerfield by Drew Charters, Northwood used three walks, a hit batter, a wild pitch and two errors to score six runs on just one hit to cut the lead to 7-6.
- The score remained 7-6 in the seventh and final inning. With the first two batters retired, Northwood rallied once again. NU got a single and a walk, which set up Drew Charters. His single to centerfield tied the score and forced extra innings.
- Lake Erie did not score in the top of the eighth, thanks in large part to a diving catch by NU shortstop Ben Narr.
- Northwood then finished off the dramatic win on a Logan Voth double in the bottom of the inning that scored Brendan Hammer.
