Baseball Earns Comeback 9-6 Win Over Lewis To Open NCAA Regional

RECAP: Northwood baseball opened the 2025 NCAA Division II Baseball Tournament with a 9-6 comeback win over Lewis Thursday afternoon (May 15).

GAME HIGHLIGHTS

• Northwood got on the board in the top of the second on a Brendan Hammer RBI single to make the score 1-0.
• Heads-up base running allowed Northwood to expand the lead in the top of the third. With one out and Myles Beale on third, Drew Charters hit a popup to first base in foul territory. The ball was caught, but the Lewis catcher went over to try and make a play, leaving home plate unattended. Beale took advantage and scored on the play to push the lead to 2-0.
• Josh Getz made it 3-0 later in the inning on a two-out RBI double.
• Lewis' offense got rolling in the bottom of the seventh, brining home six runs. The last three runs came home on an inside the park home run that made the score 6-0.
• Northwood took advantage of Lewis miscues in the eighth to get right back into the game. Ben Narr and Ben DeVries were each hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make the score 6-5.
• Pinch runner Payton Guilbeaux then tied the game on a wild pitch.
• Hammer followed with a two-out, two-run single that put the Timberwolves back on top 8-6.
• Myles Beale added an insurance run in the top of the ninth with a solo home run, making the final score 9-6.
