Northwood Earns Five G-MAC Athletes of the Week

G-MAC ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University athletic department put together a big week in competition, earning a total of five Great Midwest Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week.

The baseball program took home the North Division Pitcher and Player of the Week thanks to Tyler Sager and Caden Duryea, respectively. Maeve St. John earned her fourth G-MAC Women's Basketball Athlete of the Week award of the season. Andrey Pikulin was named the Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week, while Danijela Danilovic took home the Women's Tennis Athlete of the Week.

The five athletes to earn honors in one week is the most for Northwood in a single week since joining the Great Midwest.

Sager earned the win for Northwood in the Timberwolves' 3-1 victory over Minnesota-Crookston last week. He tossed seven innings, allowing zero earned runs on five hits. Sager allowed just two hits over his final six innings of work.

Duryea hit .625 with three home runs, six RBIs, two doubles and six runs scored in two games for Northwood last week, leading the Timberwolves to a pair of victories. He had a slugging percentage of 2.000 and an on-base percentage of .667 for the two games. In NU's 3-1 win over Minnesota-Crookston, he had a double and a run scored. Then in a wild 16-15 comeback win against Roosevelt, Duryea had one of the great individual games in G-MAC history, finishing 4-4 with three home runs, a double, a walk, five runs scored and six RBIs. Duryea's 14 total bases against Roosevelt tied the single game G-MAC record.

St. John led Northwood to two more wins, averaging 17.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 7.0 assists and 1.5 steals per game. She started the week with 14 points, six rebounds and five assists in Northwood's win over Tiffin. St. John came up one assist short of a triple double in a road win at Hillsdale, finishing with 20 points, 11 rebounds and nine assists. She scored 18 of her 20 points in the second half, leading the Timberwolves to their school-record 13th straight victory.  This marks the fourth time this season St. John has earned the G-MAC women's basketball Athlete of the Week, the most in the conference.

Pikulin went 2-0 for Northwood men's tennis, leading the Timberwolves to a 6-1 regional win over Purdue Northwest. He earned a 6-2, 6-4 win at the No. 2 singles position. Pikulin also earned a 7-5 victory at the No. 3 doubles slot with partner Finn Buschmaas.

Danilovic went 4-0 for Northwood last week, leading the Timberwolves to regional wins over Saginaw Valley and Purdue Northwest. She won both of her matches at the No. 2 position in straight sets, dropping a total of just five games in four sets. Danilovic teamed with Brigitte Gomez to win both matches at the No. 3 position as well.
