INSIDE THE GAME

  • Ashland opening the scoring late in the first quarter. The Eagles went 80-yards in seven plays to find the end zone. A missed extra point made the score 6-0 with 4:37 remaining in the first.
  • Northwood's defense came through with a big play on the next possession for the Eagles. Ricky Peason intercepted a pass and returned it 11-yards for a touchdown. The extra point put the Timberwolves on top 7-6.
  • AU missed a 19-yard field goal as the opening half was ending, keeping the Timberwolves on top 7-6 at halftime.
  • The Timberwolves put together their best drive of the day late in the third quarter. Northwood went 62-yards on 13 plays, getting the ball down to the Ashland 13-yard line. The drive came up empty, however, as NU missed a 30-yard field goal to keep the score at 7-6.
  • One of the key plays of the game proved to be a lost fumble by Northwood with 8:31 remaining. The Eagles got the ball at the NU 12. Five plays later, Ashland went on top on a 23-yard field goal to make the score 9-7.
  • After another lost fumble for Northwood, the Timberwolves earned a stop on defense to get the ball at their own 17-yard line with 1:02 remaining and no timeouts. NU moved the ball 52-yards in just 52 seconds and gave themselves a chance at the win with a 49-yard field goal. On a windy day in Ashland, the kick was no good, giving AU the victory.
