Northwood, Hillsdale Football To Play For The Newly Created Riepma Cup
MIDLAND, MICH. – Northwood University and Hillsdale College have announced the winner of their annual football game will now receive a traveling trophy, named the "Riepma Cup."
This Saturday's game (October 18) at Hillsdale between the two teams will be the first Riepma Cup matchup.
The trophy is named after former Hillsdale College Quarterback/Northwood University football head coach/Athletic Director Pat Riepma. Riepma is a Hall of Fame inductee at both schools. He was a four-year starter at quarterback for the Chargers and is the all-time winningest coach in Northwood football history.
"Northwood and Hillsdale have a proud, long tradition of competing against each other," said Northwood Athletic Director Jeff Curtis. "It was an easy decision for both schools to honor that tradition while also respecting the legacy of Pat Riepma."
Northwood and Hillsdale have been competing against each other since 1963, with the Chargers holding a 36-16 lead in the all-time series. After Northwood won five of six meetings between 2002 and 2009, Hillsdale has claimed 10 straight victories over the Timberwolves. Seven of the last 11 meetings have been decided by 11 points or less.
