Cole Simpson Named To The D2Football.com Elite 100 Team

D2FOOTBALL.COM ELITE 100 ANNOUNCEMENT

MIDLAND, MICH. – Cole Simpson, a senior defensive back from the Northwood University football team, has been named to the Second Team Defense on the D2Football.com Elite 100 list.

The Elite 100 is D2Football.com's version of an All-America team. Players are selected by staff members of D2Football.com with input from sitting head coaches as well as professional football scouting veteran Josh Buchanan. The team includes first and second team selections for offense, defense and special teams along with 25 "Squad" players for offense and defense. Squad players are equivalent to "honorable mention" selections in similar national recognition lists.

Simpson turned in a tremendous senior season at Northwood, finishing the year with 93 tackles, six interceptions and two forced fumbles. He ranked fifth in Division II in interceptions and 70th in tackles. Simpson ended the season leading the Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) in interceptions while standing third in forced fumbles and fourth in tackles. The Jackson Lumen Christi graduate registered at least five tackles in 11 of 13 games this season and earned G-MAC Defensive Athlete of the Week honors twice.

Simpson was also recently named a D2CCA Second Team All-American.

Northwood finished the year 9-3 overall, posting its most wins in a season since 2005. The Timberwolves earned their first NCAA Championship appearance since 2006.
