Men's Basketball Loses 58-56 At Lake Erie

The Northwood University men's basketball suffered another close loss Wednesday afternoon, falling at Lake Erie 58-56.

The Timberwolves are now 2-8 overall, 1-5 in the GLIAC.  Lake Erie improves to 4-5 overall, 1-4 in the GLIAC.

Northwood has now lost its last three games by three points or less.  Overall, Northwood has lost five games by a total of 15 points.

The opening half of the game was close throughout – there were six ties and three lead changes in the opening 20 minutes.  The Storm eventually took a 26-25 lead to the locker room.  Northwood shot 46.7 percent from the floor in the half, but committed 13 turnovers in the half.

Lake Erie came out strong in the second half, going up 35-27 with 14:14 remaining in the game.  Northwood fought back, eventually taking a 54-53 lead with 2:31 remaining.  But the Storm would score the next four points.  Trailing by two as time expired, Northwood got a shot off at the buzzer, but the 3-pointer was blocked at the buzzer.

For the game, Northwood shot 38.6 percent from the floor (17-44). The Timberwolves connected on 19-20 from the foul line (95.0 percent), but just 3-15 from 3-point range (20.0 percent).  Lake Erie finished at 42.3 percent from the floor (22-52).  Turnovers proved to be costly for Northwood, finishing the game with 21 giveaways.

Will Bowles (East Detroit, Mich./South Lake) led the way for the Timberwolves.  He finished with 20 points and six rebounds.  Bowles went 6-8 from the floor and 8-8 from the foul line.  Cameron Joyce (Akron, Mich./St. Vincent St. Mary's) added 13 points, going 3-5 from 3-point range.

Northwood will host Tiffin January 3.  Game time is set for 6 p.m.
