MIDLAND, MICH. – Maurice Jones (Saginaw, Mich./Arthur Hill), a senior on the Northwood University men's basketball team, was named First Team All-GLIAC, the league announced Monday afternoon (February 29).
Jones turned in one of the best individual seasons in Northwood history. He finished his season ranked in the top-four in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) in seven different categories: assists (160 - second), steals (53 - second), points (587 - third), points per game (21.0 - third), field goals made (204 - third), free throws made (126 - fourth), and minutes (943 - third). He also matched and then broke the record for points by a Northwood player in the Bennett Center/Riepma Arena. He scored 39 points against Saginaw Valley earlier this season. Jones then broke the record with his 41 point effort against LSSU. The old record was set by Alan Rainge, who scored 39 against Lake Superior State December 7, 1995. Jones' 587 points this season are the 10th most for a player in a year at Northwood, tying him with Dallas Logan (2003-04). Jones is the first player since Logan to reach the top-10 on the single-season scoring list. The last player before Logan to get to the top 10 was Alan Rainge from 1995-96.
Northwood finished the season with a 15-13 overall record.
