MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's basketball program has announced the signing of Ja'Kavien Lewis (Flint, Mich./Carman-Ainsworth) to a national letter of intent.
"Ja'Kavien brings the added quickness, on ball defense and playmaking ability we need to compete for GLIAC championships," said head coach Jeff Rekeweg. "I believe he is one of the best and toughest guards in the state and I am confident he will have an immediate impact for our program. He is a winner."
Lewis was named the Flint Player of the Year following his senior year at Flint Carman-Ainsworth. He was named AP First Team All-State and was named the Saginaw Valley League Most Valuable Player three times. A three-time All-Saginaw Valley league honoree, Lewis scored over 1,000 points in his career and was named to the Flint Area Dream Team. An outstanding student, Lewis ranks in the top 50 of his class has earned both the Rotary and Kiwanis Student of the Month honors.
Northwood posted 11 wins last season, a six-win improvement from the previous season. The Timberwolves lose just three seniors from their 13-player roster a year ago.
