Complete 2015-16 All-GLIAC Men's Golf Teams
BAY CITY, MICH. – The pair of student-athletes from the Northwood University men's golf team were named to the First Team All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Friday (April 22).
Junior Kory Roberts (Battle Creek, Mich. / Lakeview/Grand Rapids CC) is joined by senior Paul Ostby (Mt. Morris, Mich./Mott CC) on the first team. Northwood is the only school in the GLIAC to have two athletes on the First Team.
The All-GLIAC teams are based on individual scoring average from selected tournaments spanning the 2015-16 season.
Roberts finished his first season at Northwood with a scoring average of 75.6, which was good for second on the team behind Ostby. In nine events this season, Roberts had seven top-20, four top ten and two top-five finishes for the Timberwolves. He was Northwood's top finisher at the GLIAC Championship last week, placing seventh out of 74 players to lead the Timberwolves to a third-place finish at the event. That was Northwood's best finish at the championship since 2003. Against all players he competed against the entire season, Roberts beat 81.1 percent of the field (718-167).
Ostby led Northwood in scoring average (74.6) for the second straight season. Like Roberts, Ostby had seven top-20, four top ten and two top-five finishes in nine events for Northwood. Ostby was the individual champion at the Yellow Jacket Invitational at Cedarville University in the fall portion of the schedule. His win percentage against all players this season was a team-best .866 (766-119).
Coming off their third-place finish at the GLIAC Championship, Northwood is currently ranked fifth in the Midwest Region. The Timberwolves will compete at the NCAA Super Regionals May 2-4 at Grand Valley State University.
