Bio

Jake Fredal is in his third season leading the newly reestablished Northwood University men’s lacrosse program, having been named head coach in December 2022. Tasked with relaunching the program,
"I am excited to have Jacob relaunch our men’s lacrosse program,” said Northwood Athletic Director Jeff Curtis at the time of his hiring. “He brings a great love of the sport, and his excitement at the chance to start our program made him the right choice. His knowledge and ability to recruit the Detroit area will be a big part of our team having success in the future.”

In their first year back, the 2025 season saw Northwood finish 5–9 overall and 4–5 in G-MAC play, earning a berth in the G-MAC Tournament. Fredal guided the program to its first-ever postseason appearance while producing the first All-Conference players in school history.

  • Freshmen Drew Lockwood and Andrew Rogers earned Second Team All-Conference recognition
  • Lockwood also became Northwood’s first-ever G-MAC Freshman of the Year.

Before Northwood, Fredal served as the defensive coordinator at Detroit Country Day beginning in December 2020. During his two seasons on staff, the program posted a remarkable 34–4 record, advancing to both the state finals and semifinals. He also worked with the elite Juiced Cherries club program in Birmingham starting in May 2021.

A 2019 graduate of Le Moyne College with a degree in Finance, Fredal was a long pole defender for one of the top Division II programs in the country. He was part of the Dolphins’ undefeated 2016 NCAA Division II National Championship team, contributing to a dominant three-year run in which Le Moyne went 49–5.

“I want to thank Jeff Curtis and Dr. Kent MacDonald for allowing me to be a part of this university and community,” said Fredal. “The excitement around the program has been experiencing a snowball effect throughout our campus and Michigan. Northwood offers a great fit to a lot of outstanding young men who play lacrosse. I am excited to bring more future leaders of our world onto our campus to be a part of this team.”
