The Northwood University men's soccer team earned a 4-1 win over Ashland Sunday afternoon (October 21).
Northwood is now 8-5-1 overall, 7-4 in the GLIAC. Ashland falls to 7-6-2 overall, 5-6-1in the GLIAC.
The Timberwolves got the scoring going in the 12th minute on a goal by James DeCosemo (Stokesley, England). He finished a well-placed ball from Carter Brochu (Grand Blanc, Mich.) to put NU up 1-0 at 11:52.
Brochu then made it 2-0 at 29:12, finishing a loose ball that was crossed in by Mitchell Brent (Milton Keynes, England). Less than a minute later, Ashland made it 2-1 on a penalty kick, which proved to be the final goal of the half. Northwood finished the opening 45 minutes with a 13-2 edge in shots.
The Timberwolves continued to carry the play in the second half, out-shooting the Eagles 15-2. Both goals were scored by Brent and assisted by Brochu. Brent headed home the first goal at 58:13 and then converted the other chance at 62:02.
For the match, Northwood finished with a 28-4 advantage in shots. NU also held a 5-4 edge in corners.
Brent and Brochu were the stars of the match for Northwood. Brent finished with two goals and an assist, while Broche factored in all four NU goals (one goal, three assists).
Northwood will hit the road for the final weekend of GLIAC play Friday (October 26) for a match at Tiffin. The contest will get under way at 2 p.m.
