Men's Tennis Tops Michigan Tech 7-2
The Northwood University men's tennis team improved to 8-3 on the season with a 7-2 win over Michigan Tech Sunday afternoon (March 30).
The Timberwolves are now 4-1 in the GLIAC. The Huskies drop to 8-5 on the year, 3-3 in the GLIAC.
Northwood continues to dominate in doubles, taking an early 2-1 lead after winning both No. 2 and 3 spots. The team of Konstantin Zhukov (Kazan, Russia) and Samuel Walendowsky (Brusque, Brazil ) earned their second straight doubles win at the No. 2 position 8-3. In the No. 3 spot, Felipe Crema Batistella (São José dos Campos, Brazil) and Austin Woody (Midland, Mich. / Dow) capped off the third spot with an 8-5 victory.
Heading into singles, NU swept positions two through six to take a 7-2 victory. Lorenzo Montegiorgi (Velletri, Italy) improved to 7-3 on the season at the No. 2 spot after only dropping a single game. Salikh Gilmutdinov (Kazan, Russia) also dropped just one game at the No. 3 position for his sixth win of the season at that spot. Freshman Pau Martin-Sole (Barcelona, Spain) is now 3-1 at the No. 6 spot with a 6-2, 6-3 win.
Northwood will travel to Grand Valley State next week - Sunday, April 6. Match time is set for 3 p.m.
