Men's Tennis Downs Walsh 9-0

MIDLAND, MICH. – The Northwood University men's tennis defeated Walsh 9-0 Friday afternoon (April 11).

The Timberwolves are now 11-3 overall, 7-1 in the GLIAC. The Cavaliers are 10-10 on the season, 3-6 in the GLIAC.

NU's Jean Menard (Amboise, France) and Lorenzo Montegiorgi (Velletri, Italy) earned their 12th win on the season 8-0 to kick off a great start for the Timberwolves in the first home outdoor match of the season. Sophomores Samuel Walendowsky (Brusque, Brazil) and Konstantin Zhukov (Kazan, Russia) are now 4-1 in No. 2 doubles after an 8-6 win. The Freshmen team of Salikh Gilmutdinov (Kazan, Russia) and Austin Woody (Midland, Mich. / Dow) earned a close 9-8 victory for their third straight win on the season in the No. 3 doubles position.

With a 3-0 lead heading into singles, Zhukov quickly earned a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 4 position and is now 9-3 on the season at that spot. Menard then downed the top Cavalier 6-3, 6-1 to improve to 10-2 on the season. Gilmutdinov earned a 6-2, 7-5 win at the No. 3 position, while Woody was victorious at the No. 5 spot 6-2, 6-4. Freshman Felipe Crema Batistella (São José dos Campos, Brazil) is now 4-5 in the No. 6 spot with a dramatic 6-7, 6-1, 10-2 win.

The Timberwolves will host a pair of matches over the weekend, starting with Malone on Saturday (April 12) and Lake Erie on Sunday (April 13). Match times are set for 10 a.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
