Track Teams Earn Bids To NCAA Indoor Championships

The Northwood University track and field team will be represented in four events at the upcoming NCAA Division II Indoor Championships.

The event will take place March 7-9 in Birmingham, Alabama.

On the men's side, Enock Rono will lead the way for Northwood.  He is ranked second out of 17 qualifiers for the 800 meter run.  His school-record breaking time of 1:49.09 at the GVSU Big Meet is .27 off the best time in the country.  Four of the top five qualifiers in the event are from the GLIAC.

Rono will also compete in the men's 4X400 meter relay, joined by teammates Jacob Hurrell, Travis Blunt and Doug Ladner.  The team clocked a 3:14.08 earlier this season at the GVSU Big Meet.  The team is ranked ninth nationally entering the championships.

The women's team will be represented by junior Madison Pines, who will compete in a pair of events.  She will run in the 800 meter run, where she is seeded 17th with a time of 2:13.30.  Pines earned that time at the GVSU Big Meet earlier this season.  She will also run in the mile, where she is also ranked 17th thanks to her time of 5:01.17 from the Mike Lints open.  Pines is the school record holder in both events.

The top eight finishers in each event at the NCAA Championships will earn All-America honors.
