Track & Field Teams Take Part In Pair of Events
The Northwood University track and field teams competed at a pair of events over the weekend, taking part in the Lyle Bennett Open, hosted by Central Michigan University. NU also sent a few athletes to the Hillsdale Gina Relays.
On the men's side, Daniel Capek took home the win in the hammer throw with a toss of 55.39 to beat out 12 other competitors. That mark is an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark. Grant Goodspeed was third in the 3,000 with a time of 10:36.87. Marcus Rogers clocked a 4:03.12 in the 1,500 to place fourth, while Matt Williams placed fourth in the 400 at 50.89.
Jenny Frantz picked up the victory on the women's side in the 3,000, clocking a time of 10:50.70. Kelsey Burgess also picked up a win for Northwood in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11:38.92. Brittany Robichaud was second in the event at 11:56.22. Chloe Theil placed third in the 3,000 with a time at 11:00.84,whlie Marsadie Cinato earned a third place finish in the 400 (1:00.60).
HILLSDALE GINA RELAYS - RESULTS
Selected members of the team took part in the annual meet at Hillsdale. The highlight was the performance of Madison Pines. She earned an NCAA provisional qualifying time in the 1500, clocking a 4:29.46. Pines placed sixth in the event, finishing as the top division II competitor in the event.
Northwood will head to the GLIAC Championships May 1-3
