Distance Runners Shine in Track & Field's Trip to GVSU

OVERVIEW

MEET: Snowdown Showdown

LOCATION: Allendale, Mich. – Grand Valley St.

RECAP: The Northwood Track & Field team went into the weekend with high hopes, and they delivered. The Timberwolves were in action at the Snowdown Showdown hosted by GVSU in Allendale, Mich. (February 4). Northwood's mid-distance runners had another dominant weekend in the 800m and 3000m. The Timberwolves took gold and silver in both of the men's events. Both the men and women competed against some high-level competition with numerous Division I institutions in tote.

INSIDE THE MEET – MEN
• Stephen Barker took the crown in the 800m for the second time this season. Barker finished at 1:51.09. His time, which was seven-tenths of a second faster than his previous best at GVSU, won him the Mike Lint's Alumni Open.
• Josh Jones finished just behind his teammate at 1:51.72 as both cleared the NCAA provisional mark. This race was his first collegiate action in the 800m.
• Dillan Haviland continues to impress after taking another gold in the 3000m. He set a new personal best at 8:22.69 as he won his second race of the year. Haviland previously won the mile at the Bob Eubanks Open.
• Trestin Mancillas-Finnerty set another personal best at 8:23.80 in the 3000 meters while finishing second behind Haviland. Both Mancillas-Finnerty and Haviland finished in front of Division I competition.
• Lucas Woodruff set a personal record in the 800m at 1:57.91 as he placed sixth.
• Will Nemecek placed fifth in the shot put with a toss of 15.21m. Nemecek's two furthest throws on the day were 15.03m and 15.21m.
• Both Max Lerchen and Jordan Taiwo competed in the 60m hurdles against a bevy of DI athletes. Lerchen finished at 9.98 in eighth, with Taiwo finishing just behind him at 10.39.

INSIDE THE MEET – WOMEN
• Mid-distance runners continued to shine for the Timberwolves as Avery Stadt's fifth-place finish in the 800m. Stadt finished at 2:20.45.
• Taky Ezell earned Northwood another top-five finish with her 18.14m throw in the weight throw invite. Ezell finished fifth as she set a new personal record.
• Isabel Anderson placed sixth in the high jump, clearing 1.49m. Anderson showed she could compete, jumping higher than multiple Division I athletes.
• Molly Kitson finished at 5:46.09 during the mile as she broke her previous personal record by nearly 10 seconds.
• Alexis Kaanta cleared 4.22m in the long jump.

• The Timberwolves are set to be back at GVSU for the GVSU Big Meet on February 11 and 12.
