The 2018-19 season will be the fourth for Zac Ball as an assistant coach for the Northwood University Cross Country / Track & Field programs. He will focus on coaching the throws for the upcoming track season as well as serving as the director of operations for both the Cross Country and Track & Field programs. In addition, Ball is the strength and conditioning coach for the throws/middle and long distance runners.

In his first season at Northwood, Ball coached the throws and the distance runners. He guided three athletes to school records, as well as four NCAA provisional standard marks. Tyler Jensen and Jenny Frantz both broke school records in the 1,000 meters, while Hunter Perry broke the school record in the discus by over ten feet to finish the year 23rd in the country. Paul Evans finished the year as one of the top two in school history in three different categories, with provisional marks in the weight throw, discus, and hammer, finishing Top 25 nationally in all three events. Ball has also rewritten Northwood’s top ten all-time list in the throws with all 11 of his athletes placing within the top ten in multiple events

Prior to Northwood University, Ball had a distinguished career at Ashland University where he was a six-time All-American in the hammer and weight throw. The 2014 Indoor GLIAC Champion in the weight throw, Ball earned GLIAC Athlete of the week three times in his career. He was also named National Athlete of the Week in January of 2015. A two year team captain for the Eagles, Ball was on six podium teams at the NCAA meet finishing as NCAA runner ups twice. Ball also ranks top ten all time in NCAA history in the weight throw. His mark of 21.89 ranks him as the 7th best thrower in the weight in Division II history.

A native of South Amherst, Ohio, Ball earned a bachelor’s of science degree with a focus on exercise science and minors in religion, coaching, and nutrition from Ashland in 2015. In his spare time Coach Ball likes to golf as well as going to University of Michigan football games.
