Men's Cross Country Moves Up To No. 27 As NCAA's Approach
NEW ORLEANS, LA. – As the Northwood men's cross country team gears up to race at the Division II NCAA Cross Country National Championships this Friday, December 2, No. 27 Northwood received its highest ranking from the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) following its performance at the Midwest Regional (Nov. 19). The USTFCCCA National Coaches Poll was released Wednesday (November 23).
Previously No. 29, the Timberwolves took seventh at the Midwest Regional where NU had four runners set 10k personal bests and three moving into the top 25 history books. This is the fifth week this season that NU landed in the National Poll and the first time ever sending an entire team to the NCAA Championships.
No. 27 Northwood's 2022 season has seen many historical feats this season including earning their first national poll appearance on October 5 (No. 28) and four more rankings in the following weeks: Oct. 12 (No. 29), Oct. 26 (No. 28), and Nov. 9 (No. 29).
34 teams per gender were selected for the championships. 24 on each side automatically qualified (three per region, from regional championships) while the remaining 10 for each of the men's and women's championships received at-large bids as Northwood did.
The championship race will be at Chambers Bay in University Place, Washing will be streamed live on NCAA.com beginning at 1 p.m. ET for the men's race and 2:15 p.m. ET for the women's race.
