Softball Drops Final Two Games In Florida

The Northwood University softball team dropped the final two games in Florida Friday afternoon (March 14). The Timberwolves fell to Bentley 3-1 and West Chester 2-1.

NU leaves Fla. with a 9-7 overall record.

BENTLEY 3, NORTHWOOD 1

Bentley plated a run in the bottom of the first to take an early 1-0 lead. Northwood answered in the top of the second to tie the game at 1-1. Lauren Look (Pinconning, Mich.) led off the inning with a double to center field. After advancing to third, Look scored on a Jessica Tostrud (Kenosha, Wisc. / Mary D. Bradford) RBI single to the right side. The Falcons earned the game-winning run in the bottom of the second on a single to center field. Tostrud earned Northwood's lone RBI for the Timberwolves, as Look and Sam Zaborowski (Taylor, Mich./Cabrini) each hit a double in the game. Casey Brown (Hudson, Ohio) started in the circle for NU and struck out five batters. Brown is now 3-3 on the season with the loss.

WEST CHESTER 2, NORTHWOOD 1

Neither team was able to plate a run for the first four innings. It wasn't until the bottom of the fifth that Ashley Lynn (Garden City, Mich.) singled up the middle for an RBI. Tostrud led off the inning with a single and advanced to second on Brittany Merner's (Solon, Ohio / Solon) sacrifice bunt. Lynn then singled up the middle to score Tostrud and put the Timberwolves ahead 1-0. The Golden Rams responded by plating two in the top of the sixth for the 2-1 victory.

For the game, Northwood recorded seven hits as Tostrud went 2-3 and scored the Timberwolves lone run. Vanessa Ewing (Dundee, Mich.) earned the start and pitched five full innings for the Timberwolves striking out three.

NU is expected to host Tiffin on Saturday (March 22) with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
