Softball Sets 2025 Season Schedule

MIDLAND, MICH. – Northwood University's softball program announced its 2025 season schedule Friday afternoon (January 3). 2025 marks Northwood's 42nd season of softball in Midland.

The slate includes 56 games with trips to Evansville, Ind., for the Blue Bridge Battle and Clermont, Fla., for The Spring Games. These trips are set to be the Timberwolves' first 18 contests before opening their conference schedule in Midland on March 15 versus Walsh.

Northwood's trip to Evansville, Ind., is filled with Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) opponents Drury and McKendree (February 21) to open day one, followed by Indianapolis and Missouri S&T (February 22) on day two, and Lincoln and Missouri St.-Louis (February 23) on day three. Both Missouri S&T and UIndy were NCAA tournament qualifiers last season.

The Timberwolves' annual trip to the Sunshine State (March 6-12) is a 12-game slate that includes multiple opponents from the Northern Sun Conference (NSIC). As of today, these include St. Cloud St. (March 6), Concordia-St. Paul and Sioux Falls (March 7), Bemidji St. and Minnesota-Duluth (March 10), and Winona St. and Southwest Minnesota St. (March 12).

Northwood opens conference play at home on March 15 versus Walsh and will host 24 games across 12 doubleheaders. Their 24 home matchups include games with 2024 conference runer-up Findlay on March 29 and 2024 NCAA tournament teams Grand Valley St. (April 2), Ohio Dominican (April 19), and Saginaw Valley St. (April 22).

Last season, the Timberwolves finished 35-20 overall and 17-9 in the G-MAC, collecting the program's first conference tournament title and third trip to the NCAA Tournament. NU's overall record sits at 932-917-5. Head Coach Gregg Sauve holds a career record of 212-156-1 over his eight seasons. He is 19 wins shy of the all-time mark of 231 set by Suzanne Brown (1993-2000).

The Timberwolves have a load of key returners, including Ashlyn Lundquist, Ashley Ziel, Brittany Steimel, Delanie Gale, and Gabby Schloop. In the circle, Brittani Mutter, Brynn Polega, and Kamden Binney look to be key in rotation. These key players and the addition of a strong freshman class look to keep the Timberwolves at the top of the conference.

Some of the key takeaways from the 2025 schedule shows that Northwood looks to compete for another spot in the NCAA Tournament. Head Coach Gregg Sauve said they "-always try to have a top schedule in the region, and this year is no different. Our team now looks forward to playing top teams and competing at the highest level. The schedule is built to test and prepare us for the conference tournament and the NCAA regionals."

The 2025 Great Midwest Athletic Conference Championship will be held April 30-May 3 at Firestone Stadium, located in Akron, Ohio. The 2025 edition will mark the 12th annual G-MAC Softball Championship. The tournament will feature the top eight teams based on win percentage in a double-elimination bracket.
