Robinson Walks Off Game One Versus Ashland, 6-5; Game Two Postponed

RECAP: Northwood softball took two from Ashland at home on Friday afternoon (April 18) in a rain-soaked affair. Games got pushed to a 3:15 start due to weather before Northwood was able to take game one in walk-off fashion, 6-5. Game two was officially postponed due to darkness, so Northwood was awarded the 4-3 game two victory upon not being resumed.
GAME ONE HIGHLIGHTS
- Teams trade runs in the first. The Eagles took the 1-0 lead with a RBI double to right center to score the runner from second, 1-0 AU.
- Northwood tied it in the first with a pop-up to left that fell, scoring Delanie Gale from second. Abby Robinson was credited with the RBI, 1-1.
- With the wind blowing out to center, Ashland's solo shot to left center put AU back up one in the second, 2-1.
- Saylar Cuthrell's sac bunt turned into chaos on the base paths as the fielding first basemen tossed it past the first base bag. Chloe Cooper and Gage Lambert would each score from first and second, giving NU the 3-2 lead.
- Cuthrell advanced to third on a wild pitch before Ashlyn Lundquist knocked her in with a sac fly to center, 4-2 NU.
- Delanie Gale capped the four-run inning with a solo shot to center, her team leading sixth home run of the year.
- Another AU home run in the third made it 5-3. Team scoring halted until Ashland tied it up in the sixth. Ashland singled, scoring one before a misthrown ball added another on the same play, 5-5.
- Lundquist led off the seventh with a single through the right side. Gale's sac bunt and Ziel's groundout put her on third with two outs. Abby Robinson came through with a walk-off single through the right side to give NU the 6-5 win in game one.

GAME TWO HIGHLIGHTS
- Ashley Ziel notched her third home run of the year in the first. Delanie Gale's run gave Nu the 2-0 lead.
- A throwing error in the second cut NU's lead to one, allowing a runner from second to score, 2-1 NU.
- Ziel's single up the middle in the second scored Cuthrell from third, and a throwing error gave Gabby Schloop the lane to score as well. This gave NU the 4-1 lead in the second as daylight started to lessen.
- It was a race against dusk as Ashland continued trying to claw back, but NU held the 4-1 lead after five.
- AU added two in the sixth before a lightning delay caused the game to be halted due to lightning, and eventually postponed due to darkness.
- With the game being halted due to darkness, Northwood was awarded the 4-3 victory due to the match not being made up.
