Multiple Track & Field Athletes Have Career Day This Weekend

OVERVIEW – JUD LOGAN LIGHTGIVER INVITE / MIKE LINTS ALUMNI OPEN

LOCATION: Ashland – Ashland, Ohio / Grand Valley St. - Allendale, Mich.

RECAP: Northwood men's and women's track & field competed at both the Mike Lints Alumni Open at Grand Valley St. (February 8) and the Jud Logan Lightgiver Open at Ashland (February 7-8). Northwood's DMR lineups competed in their first DMRs this season at Ashland before heading to GVSU. On Saturday, Northwood had many athletes hit career best marks as well as move into and up the Northwood record book lists.

FOR THE MEN

  • It was a career day for the Northwood 60m hurdles crew of Blake Vier, Matheu Morrison, and Owen Hager. All three set new career marks (PR), with Vier taking the top spot at 7.90 and Morrison taking second with an 8.02 PR. Hager took fifth, improving to sixth on NU's all-time 60m hurdle list. Vier and Morrison improved their NCAA provisional marks and now have the sixth (No. 1 in the G-MAC) and 20th-best marks in DII this season.
  • Luke Eros continued to move ever so closely to the 20m mark in the weight throw. He placed second with a 19.82m toss, a new PR. This gave him the seventh-best mark in DII this season, improving his NCAA Provisional and fourth-best mark in program history.
  • In his first-ever collegiate 400m competition, Diogo Vaz placed third with a massive finish of 48.71. His mark is currently fourth all-time for the Northwood indoor 400m. His mark was just off the NCAA provisional mark of 48.42.
  • In the shot put events, Will Nemecek took second in the Invite competition with a 17.95m toss during his second attempt. Nemecek cleared the NCAA mark on all six throws.
  • Omari Hairston also placed second in his flights of shot put. His best mark was 15.25m.
  • Caleb Palmreuter took fourth amongst 58 racers in the men's 800m, finishing in 1:53.90. This was Palmreuter's first collegiate 800m competition.
  • Northwood's multis specialist, Jordan Taiwo, improved his PR in the pole vault to 4.11. The fourth-best mark in NU history.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Breanna Hyde competed well in both the long jump and triple jump. The Timberwolves newcomer took the crown in the triple jump with a big 10.35m leap. This move put her into fourth in program history. She also took third in the long jump, clearing 5.39 on her best jump.
  • Kelsey Hansen placed seventh in the shot put invite and fifth in the weight throw. She hit marks of 13.49m (shot put) and 15.87m (weight throw) for her top 10 finishes.
  • In the 800m, Ariel Warner moved into a tie for third in program history with a 2:15.94 PR. She is eighth in the G-MAC this season with her mark.
  • Reina McMahon improved her high jump PR to 1.43m as she took ninth in the competition.
  • With a 5:14.01 finish in the women's mile, Landry Koski now has the ninth-best mark in program history. She placed 11th in the mile after the four heats.
  • Riley Hacker added a top-10 finish for the Timberwolves in the 3000m race. Hacker took eighth overall, finishing in 11:10.41.
