Track & Field Splits Weekend To Compete at SVSU, EMU Meets

OVERVIEW – DOUG HANSEN OPEN / BOB PARKS MEMORIAL
LOCATION: Saginaw Valley State - University Center, Mich. / Eastern Michigan – Ypsilanti, Mich.
RECAP: Northwood men's and women's track & field split the weekend, competing at Saginaw Valley St.'s Doug Hansen Open (January 23) and Eastern Michigan's Bob Parks Memorial meet. (January 24).

INSIDE THE MEET – DOUG HANSEN OPEN

FOR THE MEN

  • Sophomore Diogo Vaz won the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.91. Junior Chase Burston followed with a second-place finish at 22.39, while Carson Daniel placed fourth in 22.47.
  • In the weight throw, sophomore Lucas Schumaker recorded a second-place finish with a mark of 16.78m. Freshman Max Bernard added a third-place finish at 16.14m, while sophomore Nick Ball followed in fourth with a throw of 15.91m.
  • Bernard also led Northwood in the shot put, placing third with a mark of 14.54m. Ball finished fourth at 14.10m.
  • The men's 4x400m relay team of Vaz, Daniel, Burston, and Adam Johnson won the event with a time of 3:24.56. Northwood's 'B' relay also placed second, finishing in 3:37.52.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • In the 400m, junior Brooklyn Wolcott placed second with a time of 1:02.02, while Nava Sanocki finished fourth at 1:04.62.
  • Freshman Miyanna King led Northwood in the weight throw, placing third overall with a mark of 12.81m.

FOR THE MEN

  • Senior Arthur Powell IV highlighted the sprints for Northwood in the 60-meter dash. Powell IV qualified for finals with a season-best 6.97 before running a personal record of 6.95 in the finals to place fifth overall.
  • In the 60m hurdles, sophomore Owen Hager qualified for finals with an 8.37 and later placed third overall, running a season-best 8.31. Hager's mark moves him into the Northwood men's indoor all-time top-10 performers list.
  • Freshman Denali Smith led Northwood in the high jump, clearing 1.90m to place fourth overall. Smith's mark moves him up the Northwood all-time indoor top-10 list. Senior Evan Hurley and freshman Josh Calhoun both cleared 1.85m, finishing sixth and eighth, respectively, while Jack DeWildt cleared 1.80m to place ninth.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Junior Breanna Hyde delivered one of Northwood's top performances of the meet in the long jump, finishing second overall with a mark of 5.57m PR. Hyde's mark moves her into third on Northwood's women's indoor all-time top-10 performers list. Hyde also competed in the triple jump, placing eighth with a mark of 10.31m.
  • In the 60-meter dash prelims, junior Keiyera Johnson ran 8.22, while senior Vivian Williams posted a season-best time of 8.30.
  • Johnson also competed in the 60m hurdles prelims, running a season-best 9.62.
