Timberwolves Track & Field Sets New Record Book Marks At GVSU Big Meets

OVERVIEW – GVSU BIG MEET (FRIDAY & SATURDAY)

LOCATION: Grand Valley St. – Allendale, Mich.

RECAP: Northwood's men's and women's track & field teams opened a high-stakes weekend of competition at the GVSU Big Meet Friday & Saturday (February 13 & 14). The massive field of over 100 teams across all levels of the NCAA were featured.

INSIDE THE MEET – GVSU BIG MEET FRIDAY

FOR THE MEN

  • Junior Will Haw delivered one of the standout performances of the day in the 800m Invitational. His 1:52.39 PR is currently the No. 57 mark in Division II and clears the NCAA Provisional mark. He is now No. 8 for the 800m race in program history.
  • In the 400m, Chase Burston took second place in the open section with a 49.21 PR. Diogo Vaz competed in the 400m Invitational, finishing seventh in 48.19. Burston moved in eighth while Vaz improved his No. 3 marks in program history.
  • Freshmen Parker Strelecki (1:54.24 PR) and Nolan Longuski (1:54.56 PR) both posted career-best times in the 800m.
  • Sophomore Keegan Masters earned a victory in Section 9 of the 5000m, clocking a PR of 15:18.62. Senior Sam Smith added a season-best 15:22.80 in Section 3.
  • The 4x400m relay team of Vaz, Colton Walker, Andrew Johnson, and Burston combined for a season-best 3:17.82. The mark is currently No. 45 in DII this season.
  • Senior Nick Ball led the field events with a 14.69m PR in the shot put, while also pacing the weight throw at 16.88m.
  • Matt Grindrod ran 8:34.25 in Section 2 of the men's 3000 meters, marking a top-10 all-time performance at Northwood, ranking ninth on the program's list.
  • Freshman Jack DeWildt cleared 1.89m in the high jump for a new PR and the No. 9 mark in program history.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Junior Breanna Hyde placed seventh in the elite Long Jump Invitational section with a mark of 5.36m.
  • In the 5000m, Kaylee Aultman shaved time off her personal record, finishing in 18:54.96.
  • Kaylee Locke represented the Timberwolves in the 800m, posting a 2:21.27, the tenth-best mark in program.
  • Brooklyn Wolcott ran 1:43.17 in the 600m.

INSIDE THE MEET – GVSU BIG MEET SATURDAY

FOR THE MEN

  • The Timberwolves' 4,000m Distance Medley Relay team of Palmreuter, Vaz, Haw, and Grindrod finished in 9:52.96 at the GVSU Big Meet on Feb. 14, earning a new DII top-15 mark.

UP NEXT

  • Northwood travels to Saginaw Valley State on February 20 for the SVSU Tune Up, then heads to Ann Arbor for the Silverston Invitational at Michigan.
