Vier Headlines Record Day As Timberwolves Kick Off Outdoor Track & Field Season

RECAP: The Northwood University men's and women's track & field teams opened the outdoor season with a strong showing, highlighted by multiple event victories, Northwood record book movement, and a record-breaking performance by Blake Vier on the men's side.

INSIDE THE MEET

FOR THE MEN

  • The highlight of the meet came from junior Blake Vier, who won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 13.73. His mark breaks the Northwood program record and surpasses the previous top time of 13.87, while also hitting an NCAA Division II qualifying mark. The previous mark was set by Northwood Athletics Hall of Famer Lionel Campbell back in 1980.
  • In the field events, Luke Eros delivered a standout day with a pair of NCAA Division II marks. Eros placed second in the discus with a throw of 51.02m and followed with another runner-up finish in the hammer throw with a 58.25m personal record (PR), moving into the Northwood top-10 all-time with the No. 6 mark.
  • On the track, Chase Burston added a runner-up finish in the 400 meters, crossing in 48.47, while freshman Adam Johnson placed sixth in 49.65.
  • In the 400-meter hurdles, freshman Noah Retford had a strong start to the outdoor season with a second-place finish in 55.13, while Max Danley (57.01) and Caleb Walker (58.52) added depth performances. Retford is now No. 7 in program history with the start.
  • Northwood's 4x400-meter relay "A" team of Johnson, Danley, Jack DeWildt, and Retford placed second overall in 3:23.84, while the "B" team added a fifth-place finish in 3:27.99.
  • Omari Hairston added a sixth-place finish in the shot put (15.71m PR) and placed fifth in the discus (43.58m).
  • In the jumps, Denali Smith led a trio of Timberwolves in the high jump, placing fourth after clearing 1.91m, while Jack DeWildt (1.86m) and Joshua Calhoun (1.81m) followed. Smith is now No. 6 and DeWildt No. 7 in program history.
  • Freshman Andrew Lake placed fifth in the triple jump with a mark of 13.18m. The No. 6 mark in program history.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Northwood's top performance came in the relays, as the 4x400-meter relay team of Keiyera Johnson, Kaylee Locke, Nava Sanocki, and Brooklyn Wolcott captured first place with a time of 4:07.70.
  • The Timberwolves also added a podium finish in the 4x100-meter relay, as the quartet of Johnson, Vivian Williams, Sanocki, and Breanna Hyde placed third in 50.13.
  • Individually, Breanna Hyde led the way in the field events with a pair of top-three finishes. Hyde placed third in the long jump with a mark of 5.52m, while also winning the triple jump with a mark of 10.81m, improving on her own standing in the Northwood top-10 (No. 3).
  • In the sprints, Brooklyn Wolcott paced Northwood in the 400 meters with a fifth-place finish in 1:00.18 (PR), followed by Kaylee Locke (1:01.95) and Nava Sanocki (1:02.70).
  • Keiyera Johnson turned in a solid effort in the 100-meter hurdles, placing 11th overall in 15.60.
  • In the jumps, freshman Angela Porter cleared 1.42m in the high jump to finish 10th, while Dannyka Johnson added a seventh-place finish in the long jump (5.14m).
  • In the throws, Miyanna King recorded a pair of top-12 finishes, highlighted by a fifth-place mark of 37.40m in the hammer throw. Allie Moffit led the way in the javelin with a runner-up finish, throwing 36.59m (PR) to move up to No. 4 all-time for Northwood.

  • Track & Field continues its outdoor season next weekend as distance runners head to Washington University in St. Louis (March 26-27) and other competitors head to the Raleigh Relays at North Carolina St. (March 27-28).
