Split-Squad Success: Track & Field Competes At WashU And Cedarville Meets

OVERVIEW – WASHU DISTANCE CARNIVAL / YELLOW JACKET COLLEGIATE OUTDOOR OPEN

LOCATION: Washington University – St. Louis, Mo. / Cedarville University – Cedarville, Ohio
RECAP: The Northwood University men's and women's track & field teams continued the outdoor season with a split-squad weekend, competing at the WashU Distance Carnival (March 26-27) and the Yellow Jacket Collegiate Outdoor Open (March 28).

INSIDE THE MEET – WASHU DISTANCE CARNIVAL

FOR THE MEN

  • Junior Sam Smith led Northwood in the 10,000 meters, as he posted a time of 31:19.84. The mark moves Smith into No. 4 in program history, improving his previous 10K outdoor mark by 15 seconds. Teammate Keegan Masters added a time of 32:45.59 during the event as well.
  • In the 3000-meter steeplechase, Matt Grindrod turned in a strong effort, crossing the line in 9:29.80 to place 20th overall. He opens his outdoor season with the fifth-best mark for the steeplechase in program history.
  • Freshman Parker Strelecki represented the Timberwolves in the 800 meters, finishing in 1:53.05 in 22nd.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Junior Kaylee Locke led Northwood in the 800 meters, recording a time of 2:23.17.
  • In the 5K, junior Kaylee Aultman paced the Timberwolves with a time of 19:16.08.

INSIDE THE MEET – YELLOW JACKET COLLEGIATE OUTDOOR OPEN

FOR THE MEN

  • Northwood was highlighted by a dominant performance from Luke Eros in the hammer throw, as he captured first place with a mark of 63.72m. The throw ranks No. 2 in program history and stands as the No. 3 mark in NCAA Division II this season.
  • Eros also added a fifth-place finish in the discus with a throw of 48.30m.
  • Sophomore Lucus Schumaker turned in a strong performance in the hammer throw, placing eighth with a mark of 54.40m. He now holds the tenth-best mark in program history.
  • In the jumps, freshman Andrew Lake recorded a third-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 12.81m.
  • On the track, freshman Noah Retford posted a time of 56.58 in the 400-meter hurdles, the tenth-best mark in program history.

FOR THE WOMEN

  • Breanna Hyde set a new Northwood school record in the triple jump, clearing 10.99m to surpass her previous best and take the top spot on the program's all-time leaderboard. She also placed sixth in the 100-meter hurdles, crossing the line in 16.28 seconds, a mark that ranks fifth in Northwood history.
  • Hyde also added a ninth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.23m, while Dannyka Johnson posted a mark of 4.88m.
  • In the high jump, Dannyka Johnson cleared 1.43m, while freshman Angela Porter recorded a mark of 1.38m.

UP NEXT

  • Track & Field continues its outdoor season next weekend with competition at two meets. The Timberwolves will send athletes to the 98th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays (April 1-4) in Austin, Texas, while the rest of the squad competes at the Golden Grizzlies Invitational on April 4 in Rochester, Mich.
