MIDLAND, MICH. - The Northwood University women's basketball team was picked to finish third in the South Division of the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Preseason Coaches' Poll, which the league released Wednesday (October 25).
Voting was done by the head coaches of the 12 teams around the GLIAC.
This will be the first time since the 2009-10 season that Northwood will be in the South Division.
Northwood finished with 48 points and one first place vote. Defending NCAA Division II national champion Ashland was picked to win the league with 66 points. Saginaw Valley was picked second at 51 points.
Michigan Tech was named the favorite in the North Division (58), followed closely by Grand Valley State (57) and Northern Michigan (52). MTU, GVSU and NMU all received four first place votes.
In addition to the preseason coaches' poll, the league announced the Preseason All-GLIAC teams. The Timberwolves placed two players on the South team: senior guards Maddy Seeley and Lindsay Orwat. Northwood is one of three teams in the conference to feature two preseason All-GLIAC players (Ashland, Ferris State).
Northwood will open their 2017-18 season November 10 at Southern Indiana. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
