Women's Basketball Drops 78-39 Contest To Open Season At Southern Indiana

RECAP: Southern Indiana uses a huge third quarter to run away from Northwood in a 78-39 win the season opener for both teams Friday night (November 10).

FIRST QUARTER

• Northwood scored the opening two points of the game, but that proved to be the lone lead for the Timberwolves on the night.
• The Screaming Eagles led by as many as seven in the first quarter before taking a 21-16 lead after one.
• The Timberwolves shot 45.5 percent from the floor in the quarter (5-11), while US finished at 47.1 percent (8-17).

SECOND QUARTER

• Southern Indiana came out fast in the second quarter, scoring the first eight points to go up 29-16.
• NU got the lead down to 10 late in the half, but the Screaming Eagles scored the final four points of the quarter to go up 41-27 at the break.
• USI shot 52.9 percent from the floor in the second, compared to Northwood at 33.3 percent.

THIRD QUARTER

• Southern Indiana completely dominated the third quarter, scoring the first 19 points of the frame to put the lead at 60-27.
• Overall in the third quarter, USI out-scored Northwood 24-2 to go up 65-29 heading to the fourt
• Northwood's offense struggled in the third quarter, going 0-10 from the floor. Southern Indiana went 9-18 in the frame.

FOURTH QUARTER

• Northwood got no closer than 37 points in the fourth quarter.
• The Southern Indiana lead got to as many as 43.
• Both teams struggled in the fourth quarter from the floor – Southern Indiana finished at 28.6 percent (4-14) while Northwood went 3-9 (33.3 percent).
