Women's Basketball Places Three On G-MAC All-Tournament Team - Lea Holmes Named MVP
MIDLAND, MICH. – Three members of the Northwood University women's basketball team have been named to the All-Great Midwest Athletic Conference (G-MAC) All-Tournament team.
Sophomore center Lea Holmes was named the Tournament MVP. Senior guard Maeve St. John and freshman guard Karie Keefer were also named to the team.
Holmes averaged 22.7 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game in Northwood's three wins. She shot 61.9 percent from the floor (26-42) and 93.8 percent from the foul line (15-16) in the tournament. Holmes led Northwood in scoring in all three games of the event.
St. John finished the G-MAC Tournament averaging 13.7 points, 6.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 assists per game. Her best game of the event came in the opening round victory over Ashland when she had 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists.
Keefer was a key performer for the Timberwolves off the bench in the tournament, averaging 10.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and 2.7 steals per game. Keefer shot 50.0 percent from the floor (11-22) and 8-8 from the foul line.
Northwood took home the tournament championship to match their regular season title. The Timberwolves (26-5) are the No. 3 seed in the upcoming NCAA Division II Midwest Regional tournament. NU will take on No. 6 seed Malone in the opening round Friday (March 13). Game time is set for Noon.
