The Northwood University women's golf team placed eighth out of 14 teams at the Gilda's Club Lake Invite Saturday and Sunday (September 29-30).
The two-day, 36-hole event was hosted by Grand Valley State at The Meadow's Golf Club. The course played as a 6,041 yard, par 72.
Northwood shot team scores of 340 and 339 to finish at 679. Ashland was the overall winner at 634, followed by California (PA) at 635.
The Timberwolves were led by sophomore Emily Vergin (Milford, Mich.). She carded rounds of 83 and 80 to finish at 163. Her total was good for a tie for 15th overall. It is the first time in her career she has finished as Northwood's top finisher. Brittany Davidson (Mississauga, Ont.) was one stroke behind Vergin, carding rounds of 80 and 84 to tie for 18th overall.
Northwood will travel to the Findlay Invitational Sunday and Monday (October 7-8).
